Cost of registering an LPA to fall significantly

The Office of the Public Guardian has announced that the cost of registering a Lasting Power of Attorney is to be significantly reduced from 1st April. An LPA allows you to appoint people to make decisions for you if you cannot make them yourself. They can avoid your family having to make a costly and time consuming application to the Court of Protection if you should lose your capacity through a sudden illness like a stroke, brain injury, a coma or dementia.

The current cost of £110 is to be reduced to £82, with a repeat application reduced to £41. If you have prepared LPAs but not registered them, you can take advantage of the lower price by waiting until April. With as many as 85% of the population said not to have LPAs in place, there has probably never been a better time to act.
